When there appears to be a problem sending and receiving data from Customs there are a number of possible problem areas. 1 - Transmissions are actually being sent and received but the data is not being processed. There is a background nucleus that processes the data. It starts when there is data to be processed and ends after processing the data. Occasionally something happens to leave it in a suspended state. Symptoms - When a transmission is made the "normal" messages are observed. Data returned by USCS may be read. When inquiring on the results no data is found. To verify the problem use option 5 on the ABI Transmission menu. This is a hidden option because it should not normally be required. This will force the data to be processed. Use the system administration menu to reset the background nucleus. the nucleus name is backgrnd.
